Established by Colin Jones in 1972, Colin Jones (Rock Engineering) Ltd is a family-founded company that has been providing specialist Civil Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering services in the UK for over 50years and are now at the forefront of the UK’s Geotechnical and Civil Engineering sector.

We are a respected and professional specialist Geotechnical and Civil Engineering Company based in Porthmadog, North Wales providing Geotechnical, Civil Engineering and Specialist Services both locally and nationally.

We are an accredited company, providing a range of services including Geotechnical Engineering, Rock and Slope stabilisation, Landslide Repairs, Retaining Walls, Rope and Mechanical Access, Pressure Pointing and Grouting, Gabion Suppliers and Installation, and Drilling.

We work with local and nation-wide suppliers and sub-contractors, ensuring we meet the client and job needs to a high standard. Our clients have ranged from the Private sector, Local Authorities to National Construction Companies.

The Team

Our bilingual workforce may be small; but our helpful office staff will be able to help you with your queries and our site teams have the skills, experience and resources to work across the UK in a wide variety of projects. All offering a dependable and professional service.

All individuals of the Site Teams have either a CSCS or CPCS cards, with most having an NPORS card for different accreditations. We have 4 Site Supervisors with SSSTS accreditation and 2 Site Managers with the SMSTS accreditation. Some also have IRATA qualifications (Level 1 to 3) so they are able to access difficult areas. Two of our staff have a NEBOSH qualification in Health and Safety Management for Construction.

David Jones, Director

From the age of 16, David started with the Company as a Trainee Driller and Explosives Engineer getting involved in various blasting and demolition projects before being promoted to Supervisor and taking on more responsibilities in rock stabilisation and grouting.

He had a brief time working abroad, before coming back as a Joint Manager and then Managing Director, following the death of his father, Colin Jones.

David has gained 50 years of experience and knowledge, through working in all stages of our projects (including Project Manager) and all aspects of the Company.

Despite taking a step back into semi-retirement in recent years, he is still active in the running of Colin Jones (Rock Engineering) Ltd and happy to share his wealth of knowledge with the whole team.

Richard W Owen, General Manager

Richard worked as a Quantity Surveyor for 20years working with a range of different contracts from residential to commercial projects, before setting up his own business in 2016 offering a Commercial and Project Management service.

At the same time, he began with Colin Jones (Rock Engineering) Ltd as the Commercial Manager, being heavily involved in the Project Co-ordination, design development and Health and Safety tasks. For the last 4years, he has progressed to the General Manager role, taking on more roles including doing the Construction Phase Plans, Method Statements and Risk Assessments.

Darren Moore, Contracts Manager

Darren has been with the Company since 1988 and has worked his way up from on-site driller to being the Contracts Manager. He has over 30years of experience of knowledge of the industry - geo-technical works, drilling, soil nail installation, ground anchor installation and testing, gabion walling, concrete works, drainage and earthworks.

He has a very hands-on approach, helping and guiding the site teams and being available to work alongside the clients and sub-contractors whilst on site. He is involved in all stages of the projects; from the initial site visit through to the final stages.
